Our new home at 1928 Oak Bay Ave
What started out as a sketch on a blank piece of paper is now a reality. The brand new Arbutus Physiotherapy & Health Centre will officially open our doors on Monday October 28th.
Back in November of 2017 we became aware that an old unoccupied dental lab on Oak Bay Ave had recently been purchased and was being redeveloped. A little digging and we soon learned that the developer happened to be part of our Arbutus community. Brad Schaffer was planning on building up and putting residential units above the already existing commercial space.
After some discussions, and a lot of thought, the decision was made to start the process of expanding Arbutus. In doing so, we have increased the size of the clinic to better serve our community and provide a better work environment for our team.
Arbutus has always been a very small and intimate physiotherapy and health clinic. We wanted to keep this feeling alive with the design and layout of the new clinic, while providing certain services and amenities that may have been lacking for both patients and staff. In essence, we wanted to take the strengths of our small clinic on Amphion and bring them the few hundred feet over to the new clinic at 1928 Oak Bay Ave.
Patients and Staff will now find themselves entering a space where every treatment room has been designed with both the patient and practitioner in mind. From the lighting, to the sound, to the art, no detail was overlooked in the design and layout.
Patients will have an expanded waiting area while still having a bright welcoming space to interact with our amazing administrative team. The admin team will have an expanded front reception area. We have also included showers in the design for our staff who bike and run to work.
Another exciting service that has been incorporated into the new clinic is the addition of a Physician specializing in Sports Medicine. We are excited to welcome Dr. Melina Thibodeau to the team. A treatment room dedicated to sports medicine was one of the key features of the new design.
As many of you know, Arbutus has a strong connection to the athletic community in Victoria and to Human Powered Racing in particular. An athlete testing room has been incorporated into the new space where Mike Neill, Head Coach of Human Powered Racing, will have the tools to test and consult with athletes. We are excited to provide this service not only for experienced athletes, but also for those looking to get started in endurance sports or simply improve their fitness.
After months of work, we are excited to welcome you to the NEW Arbutus Physiotherapy & Health Centre. We hope you enjoy it and we hope that it brings you to a space where your health can flourish.
There are so many people we would like to thank for all of their help and advice in taking on this exciting new chapter in Arbutus’ history.
Brad (Turnbull Development Group), Shirley, Bill, John (Story Construction), Richelle, David, Jay K, Ashley, Jessica, Scott, Kristen, Sherwin, Natasha (and Mike), Nadine, Mike. There’s so many more. This journey could not have happened without our community.
