What is Shockwave Therapy (ESWT)?

ESWT is an effective and non-surgical technology utilizing high-energy, short wavelength acoustic waves called shockwaves to treat tendons, fascia, bone and periosteum (membrane on bones). Healing effects include bone and tendon regeneration, increased blood vessel growth and a chemically induced decrease in pain and sensitivity of pain receptors.

How many treatments?

Most conditions only require 3 treatments (once session per week). Some cases require up to 5 treatments. After the treatment is completed the injured area continues to heal for 6 to 18 weeks.

How much are the treatments? Does insurance cover it?

The total cost is $360 – this includes an initial assessment with the healthcare practitioner and two additional return appointments for a total of 3 treatments with shockwave. Other treatments will be provided during these sessions including soft tissue release, joint mobilizations, and exercise prescription. Most insurance companies do cover ESWT but please check with your insurance company if your plan covers the treatment.

Does it work?

Research proves that ESWT is extremely effective for most near bone tendonitis and fasciitis – more so than most of the alternatives ie. plantar fasciitis (90% improvement), tennis elbow (77% improvement), and calcific tendonitis of the shoulder (91% improvement).

What conditions does it treat?

  • Golf and tennis elbow
  • Calcific tendonitis
  • Plantar fasciitis
  • Achilles tendonitis
  • Shin splints
  • Rotator cuff tendonitis
  • Heel and arch pain

Is it safe?

Very safe. ESWT has no long term effects or damages. Some short term discomfort is felt during the treatment and some people will experience mild bruising, tingling or numbness over the treated area.

What our patients say about us

A bouquet of yellow and red tulips in a glass vase, which we see only the top of, set against a white background. Slightly left of center is the focus of the picture, which is a yellow blossoming tulip. It is sticking out from the others and bent to that the center of the flower is facing the camera. It is bright yellow with a small patch of red on each petal.
